born. Balassagyarmat in 1739., died at Pilisvörösvár on 3. November 1820. (26. Marchesvan)

 

Son of Judah Leib Engel, Rabbi of Balassagyarmat. He was working in Pilisvörösvár since 1779 until he died in 1820, where he was the first rabbi whom name was recorded. He was a great kaballist, lead a yeshiva, which was visited by pupils from all parts of the country. A collection of his poems with the title of Shiras Odon (Shirat Adon - Songs of the Lord) was published much after his death in Pest, in 1872.
